Import consumption gets a boost through CIIE trading centers

The China International Import Expo may only span six days, but many of the products displayed will continue to be available to Chinese buyers and consumers at the Hongqiao Import Commodity Exhibition and Trading Center following the conclusion of this year’s event.

Located adjacent to the CIIE venue and Hongqiao International Airport, the Hongqiao Import Commodity Exhibition and Trading Center currently houses 109 companies, among which 70 percent are CIIE exhibitors, that are showcasing more than 10,000 products.

During the shopping festival organized by the Shanghai municipal government from May to June, the center raked in 7.8 million yuan ($1.16 million) worth of sales for CIIE exhibits, with Italian wines and Greek olive oil being particularly popular among buyers.

The center is one of the 56 trade centers in Shanghai that allow CIIE exhibitors to display and sell their products after the annual expo period.
