Turkey National Day reception held in Beijing

The Turkey National Day reception was held in Beijing on Monday to celebrate the 96th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey.

Abdulkadir Emin Önen, ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to China delivered a speech at the reception. He said that Turkey is now the 18th largest economy in the world, 6th largest economy in Europe, an active member of the UN, G-20, NATO, Council of Europe, Organization of the Islamic Cooperation, Turkic Council and a dialogue partner of Shanghai Cooperation Organization. “Turkey will continue to uphold international cooperation to achieve world security, peace and prosperity; as well as to develop humane and peaceful solutions to the issues of international concern,” he said.

On the economy and trade area, the ambassador pointed out that China is Turkey’s largest trade partner in Asia. The number of entrepreneurs doing business is increasing in both ways. On the people-to-people ties, Turkish Tourism Year in China last year as well as the EXPO Beijing contributed immensely to the cordial interactions between the two ancient countries and civilizations.

“The year 2020 will mark the 10th anniversary of the establishment of strategic cooperative relations between Turkey and China and 2021 the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations,” said him. “Given our countries’ shared vision for a peaceful and prosperous global order, I am highly confident that Turkey and China will enjoy a much closer friendship in the future,” he added.

“We are heartened to see that and wish the Turkish people every success in your national development,” said China’s Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong in his speech.

Chen pointed out that China and Turkey are both developing countries and emerging markets with important influence. Two sides are accelerating the efforts to follow upon the consensus between the presidents and to promote bilateral ties and practical cooperation.

“Standing at a new historical starting point, China is ready to work with Turkey to further enrich our strategic relationship of cooperation and build stronger synergy between the Belt and Road cooperation and the Middle Corridor initiative, so as to bring even greater benefits to our two peoples,” Chen said.
