Over the past 70 years, China has engaged in a variety of efforts to combat poverty, including the creation of poverty alleviation models with Chinese characteristics. The number of rural poor has dropped remarkably and the poverty rate has seen a continuous decrease. Solid steps have been taken to eliminate regional poverty, and the people have witnessed a significant increase in their income. Decisive progress has been made in the fight against poverty, creating the biggest achievement in China's poverty alleviation history.
The first goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals is "no poverty." The Chinese government promises that by the year 2020, all rural residents living below the current poverty line should be lifted out of poverty, and the moderately prosperous society in all respects should be built up.
