“Taking the African region for example, many countries have witnessed development in different areas, including infrastructure, education, and people-to-people exchanges,” Charles pointed out.“In Africa and the Caribbean, several countries that have struggled to arrange loans or have had to borrow money from banks at high interest rates have been able to obtaing rants from China, and also to arrange loans at very concessionary and low rates.”

“Had it not been China, many of these countries would not have been able to see the kind of development that they are experiencing today,” he continued. “So we are grateful to President Xi for this great initiative, and Dominica will continue to support the Belt and Road Initiative in this shared vision for all humanity.”

Charles said,“China went through its own difficult period over 40 years ago, so the country knows what is right for other countries - especially those in Africa. China has provided assistance to these countries by building roads, bridges, hospitals and sporting facilities. China has been able to help other countries not because of what China expects to get back from them, but because they are true friends.”

Charles also spoke highly of the Belt and Road Initiative:“I would like to congratulate President Xi and the Chinese people on the Belt and Road Initiative because it has brought tremendous economic benefit for citizens throughout the world.”

“We hope that Dominica will expand its collaboration with China,” he added.“The Belt and Road Initiative can be a powerful force to promote our development and create a win-win situation.”
