China, Peru vow to promote bilateral ties

LIMA, July 21 (Xinhua) -- China and Peru pledged to deepen practical cooperation and further develop bilateral relations through coordinating development strategies under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), said Li Qiang, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Friday.

Li, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, said this when meeting with Peruvian Prime Minister Cesar Villanueva.

Li conveyed to Villanueva Chinese Premier Li Keqiang's greetings.

Li said China and Peru are good friends with mutual trust and good partners sharing common development. China has always viewed and developed China-Peru relationship from a strategic and long-term perspective.

China hopes that both sides align development strategies under the BRI framework, leverage complementary advantages and continuously improve practical cooperation to boost further development of the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership, said Li.

For his part, Villanueva asked Li to convey his good wishes to Premier Li and said that Peru attaches great importance to developing relations with China.

Villanueva said his country highly appreciates the important role that China-Peru cooperation has played in Peru's economic and social development. Peru welcomes and supports the BRI and is willing to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields to benefit the two peoples.

At the invitation of the ruling Peruvians for Change party, a CPC delegation led by Li started a visit to Peru from July 19.
